Comparing Practical Purchases to Make Your Home Safer

Comparing Practical Purchases to Make Your Home Safer

Many experts suggest a comprehensive home security system such as ADT or Vivint. However, there are additional tools you can use to keep your home safer. I asked Andy Murphy for his suggestions.

Andy Murphy founded The Secure Dad ® in 2016 because he realized that Every Parent is a Protector. It’s up to us as Protector Parents to make sure our family is safe. Through his book, podcast, and online learning Andy works to help educate families on how they can live safer, happier lives.

If you already have a home security system or are considering purchasing one, consider how such a system would work in tandem with Andy’s practical purchase suggestions.

Floodlights

For most homes, the standard motion sensor floodlight that you buy at a home improvement store will do. If necessary, an electrician can install them.

If you have a Ring home security system, you may want to consider the Floodlight Cam Wired Pro, a hardwired camera flood light combination that will record and turn the lights on for any motion it detects.

Door Locks

Because hacking technology is getting so good so fast, I do not recommend smart locks. The Schlage Camelot Keypad deadbolt is a great choice for keyless entry into your home. It offers multiple codes, no wi-fi to worry about, and is powered by a 9v battery that lasts for years.

To protect your doors while you are home, I highly recommend FlipLok, a secondary door lock that withstands 1,600 pounds of force. It activates in less than a second and can be used by adults and kids.

People can get 20% off their order using code SECUREDAD at checkout. There is a FlipLok on my door right now.

Window Locks

Most homes have small kids who may need to escape a fire from a window, so I avoid window locks. Instead, I suggest calling a local company to put glass break film over your first-story windows, which will keep the window from being broken open.
